30 Self Care Ideas
You know the old saying: you can’t fill the cup of others if you can’t fill your own. Or, put your oxygen mask on first……
Taking care of yourself is a crucial part of your health and wellness. As a wellness coach, I see many clients who just don’t know how to get started with a self-care regimen. Today, I will highlight a few of my favorites tips to get you started.
The number 1 tip on the list of 30 is to get enough sleep. When you are not sleeping enough or getting quality sleep at night, your body begins to show the signs. Inadequate sleep adds to your stress level, weakens your immune system and can lead to illness and disease. Make sure you are getting 7-8 hours of good sleep every night.
Next, we need to take time to prioritize your day. This can be done first thing in the morning or before you go to bed at night. Take a look at your schedule and your To-Do List and figure out what really needs to be done, what projects will take more time and what can wait until later. Doing this will greatly help you manage your time each day and reduce your stress.
My 3rd tip is to move your body with the exercise you love. Whether you take a quick walk around the block or you go to the gym for an hour long session, moving your body is key to taking care of you and reducing your stress. Yoga is my go-to for movement – you can do a quick 10 minute session to get the blood flowing or a longer, more relaxing session. You can even power yoga your day! I recommend checking out Yoga With Adriene on YouTube to get started.
Focus on the positive things in your life. When negativity surrounds you, it is hard to get through the day and hard to focus on anything you need to do. Start a gratitude journal and find three things every day your are grateful for. Doing this will swing your moods daily to the positive and you will see a remarkable difference!
My last tip to highlight is open your windows and blinds each day and get some natural sunlight. Sometimes, we take the sun for granted and don’t realize the powerful effect it has on us. Good old Vitamin D can do wonders for you and help you feel more grounded and relaxed.
